Nintendo Treehouse announced via its live stream event that the Super Smash Bros for 3DS demo will hit North America on September 19. Select Club Nintendo Platinum members will receive four demo download codes today through email.

Nintendo has since sent out a press releasing announcing that those who gained Platinum status between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014, and have registered 3DS hardware or software (and are set up to receive emails from the company) will be those who receive codes. The other three codes are meant to be shard with friends who also own the system.

The demo contains five playable characters (Mario, Link, Pikachu, Villager and Mega Man), one stage (Battlefield) and local multiplayer. The Club Nintendo version of the demo will offer unlimited use, but the general public version will limit the amount you can play--you can only open it from the home menu a maximum of 30 times.
