Clash Of Clans Update Adds Economy Balancing; New Level For Gold Mines And Elixir Collectors, Earlier Dark Elixir And More Wall Changes

Clash Of Clans Giving You More Money To Spend On The Troops This Winter With Forthcoming Economy Balancing Update Patch

Merry Christmas from the folks over at Supercell. The annual holiday update for Clash of Clans is right around the corner, but it’s not just Christmas trees that are coming to your village but a whole host of new economy changes.

Supercell forum member Marika outlined the forthcoming changes via blog post earlier in the day. The focus of this next update will be “economy balancing” and how and when players pay for the various upgrades in the game. Clash of Clans has three main forms of currencies - Gold, Elixir and Dark Elixir - with a far more important fourth currency: time. Time truly is money in Clash of Clans.

Firstly, as a wall junkie, one of my favorite improvements was the ability to upgrade walls using Elixir at a lower Town Hall level. No more, now the option to use Elixir on walls will start at TH level 9, a balancing change that will let you buy more units for attacking during the mid-level game.

And available at Town Hall level 8, both Elixir Collectors and Gold Mines will be upgraded to level 12! “This means more generation during idle times and more potential resources when going on the attack. The new collector level will have increased production rate, capacity and hitpoints.”

Dark Elixir drills can be built at a lower level, at Town Hall 7 instead of 8. This might not seem like a lot to the uninitiated, but it’s huge. Huge I tell you. That’s literally extra days worth of DE production, an already rare and valuable resource which will allow players to get practice with the various Dark Elixir units earlier. Additionally, the second DE drill can be built at Town Hall level 8 instead of 9. The demand for more Dark Elixir is high, but the supply has been stifled by "the man" (in this case, Supercell).

The changes are part of an effort to better balance the mid and high level economy of scale involved in the game. Players aren’t spending as frequently on upgrades, but they are spending a whole lot more. Unit prices increase as you upgrade your level; and to put it in layman’s terms, the current minimum wage isn’t keeping with inflation, which decreases a player’s investment in the game.

Because at the end of the day, the main currency in Clash of Clans is clashing. We don’t go to accurately recreate real world economies. But armies in game are like armies in the real world: they cost money, and by giving players a little more unfettered access to gold and elixir, the central currency of the game will live to fight another day.
