Elphias Doge has met his friend Dumbledore in the great beyond. British actor David Ryall has died at the age of 79. He passed on Christmas Day.

His death was reported by USA Today after a tweet from Mark Gatiss revealed the news a few days after the passing. The actor was saddened to see a great actor and friend pass.

Ryall was primarily known for his role as friend to Dumbledore Elphais Doge, and appeared in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows where he played a Ministry of Magic jurist. Doge was a member of the Order of the Phoenix and was involved in both the first and second Wizarding War, according to the book. His character was the one to write the obituary for Albus Dumbledore after his death.

His role in the movie was smaller but he had some pivotal moments in the book itself.

Although that was his only role in the magical series, he also appeared in many other movies during a 50 year-long career. He was also in Around the World in 80 Days in 2004 as well as City of Ember in 2008. He also played in the BBC comedy Outnumbered where he portrayed a grandfather suffering from dementia.

Ryall is survived by his son, Jonathan Ryall, and two daughters Imogen Ryall and Charlie Ryall. Fans can relieve his best moments on film by picking up a few of his movies or just re-watching Harry Potter.  Below are some moments form his wide career.
