New Castlevania Game Coming to Nintendo 3DS

A couple details have leaked concerning Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, the cover story for the upcoming June issue of Nintendo Power.

Though it's being made by the same development team as Lords of Shadow, MercurySteam, Mirror of Fate's gameplay seems to be diametrically opposed to both Shadow's gameplay style, as well as the Metroidvania style of so many other Castlevania hand helds. Instead, Fate looks like it will be a sidescrolling throwback in the style of older Castlevania titles.

What we know so far is this: It stars Trevor Belmont, and players will use the character's version of the Combat Cross. How or if he's related to Shadow protaganist Gabriel remains to be seen. The focus seems to be on combat, with a wide variety of abilities ranging from different secondary weapons and magic to grappling. Rumored secondary weapons will include an electric bomb, and a boomerang style glaive. The light / shadow system will be returning. There will be some form of RPG-esque gameplay, as players gather experience points that can be used to unlock new combos, like in Shadow.

The game will be playable at E3 2012.
