New F Zero Wii U Title In The Works? Miyamoto Says Maybe, But Only If Certain Conditions Are Met

Might There Be A New F-Zero Title? Miyamoto Says 'Maybe', On The Condition That New Controller Interface Be Used

Of all the remakes, redos, updates, ports and reimaginings of previous titles, there is one Nintendo game that has long remained dormant: F-Zero. We’ve long clamored for something- anything- and recently creator Shigeru Miyamoto said…maybe.

To be more precise, Miyamoto was on the Youtube channel Smosh and was asked about any upcoming F-Zero projects. He replied, through a translator, that “maybe if we create a new type of controller interface and we find a controller interface that’s particularly suited for F-Zero” a future entry into the racing series would be possible.

Firstly, no. Nintendo, you do not need any more weird peripherals taking up valuable real estate on entertainment centers. You have the Wii U gamepad, the fancy Wii U controllers, plus the motion sensors. (Not to mention the Gamecube add-on, and the amazing Gamecube controllers.)

But the take away is that a future F-Zero title is not out of the question, it’s just highly unlikely at this point. Miyamoto and the original 1990 game’s creator Takya Imamura are currently developing the next gen Starfox title.

Were it not for Smash Brothers, which features Captain Falcon, F-Zero would be all but forgotten by today’s gaming community. The last entry, F-Zero: Climax, was released exclusively in Japan in 2004 for the GBA. The last console entry was F-Zero GX for the Gamecube, which we must stress is both super-difficult and super fun to play even to this day.

F-Zero was the first racer developed by Miyamoto, and predates the original Super Mario Kart by two years. In the Button Mash video, Miyamoto comments that there are many regular racing titles out there and he wants to develop more “games”, akin to Mario Kart which are hardly about the driving at all.

Mr. Miyamoto, sir, there is room for both; and F-Zero could be that game. Please, please make it happen. I’ll even buy yet another weird controller if that’s what it takes. Watch the guys over at Smosh. The F-Zero part occurs at 5:27.
