Next Gen Borderlands 3 At Last? Take Two CEO Confirms New Xbox One And PS4 Entry Into Beloved Series
At last, at last, at last, good Lord, it is coming at last: Borderlands is coming to next gen.
Nor do I just mean the Handsome Collection which bundles Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel! into a nice PS4 and Xbox One package. In an earnings report yesterday, Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick teased out a brief bit of news/non-news for the series:
"Looking further ahead, we have robust long-term pipeline of titles in development, including groundbreaking new intellectual properties and new releases from our proven franchises. For example, we can confirm that 2K and Gearbox Software will develop an all-new Borderlands game built specifically for next-gen consoles."
An "all-new Borderlands game" is vague. It's not Borderlands 3, it's just "new". Dollars to donuts we can expect the next chapter in the Handsome Jack chronicles, but don't be surprised if it's some Claptrap based adventure.
Zelnick also teased "numerous unannounced titles in development".
Look, I love my PS3 and my Xbox 360, but they had their (criminally short) day in the sun. It is time to give the new kids the keys to the kingdom and see what they can do with. Borderlands is primed for a next-gen release, no matter what you might say about the gameplay itself, all three of the games look amazing. Imagine all that cel-shading on a hi-end 4k tv with the best graphics consoles can buy?
Well, until such time as Borderlands 3 (which would be the fourth) is announced, we always have the Handsome Collection and that sweet, sweet working Claptrap robot to tide us over.
