The Week In Games, February 9: Evolve Brings The Firepower, While Nintendo Unleashes The Hunt On 3DS And More

The week of February 9 is Darwin Week here at Video Game Industry (TM).

Nintendo eShop And Virtual Console Release Schedule This Week

This is a big fancy way to say: Evolve (PC / Xbox One / PS4) is finally out this Tuesday. By now, you have already formed an opinion on this game: it could be the best multiplayer game ever OR it's a glorified DLC machine that lost your trust with its insane amount of pre-order shenanigans. Either way, you are going to try the sci-fi shooter one way or the other eventually. We here are firmly in the former category. Let's hope it lives up to our expectations. Let's also hope that there are no Day One issues come February 10.

In fact, there will already be a Day One patch for "improvements". Nothing broken...yet.

Battlefield Hardline Has Had A Lot Of Players. Like, A Whole Lot.

Turtle Rock's gargantuan title quite rightly towers over the week, but there is still more to be had for those who believe "never buy a major AAA game during the first week". And after last November, who can blame you?

Nintendo is bringing their own version of "the thunder" with two new titles, and a brand new console. Firstly, be sure to get in line early because the New Nintendo 3DS - the handheld that launched a thousand bad puns - launches this Friday, February 13. A new C-stick, eye tracking capabilities and all around improvement on the beloved handheld. No, I'm not getting a new Nintendo 3DS. I'm getting a New Nintendo 3DS. Capitalization matters.

Alongside the latest handheld is The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, the updated version of the N64 title. People are saying it's good, and of course it is, it's a Zelda game, isn't it? Whether you're a big fan of the game or never tried it out before, now is the time to save Termina... over and over and over again. Out on Friday.

Also out this Friday for the 3DS is Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, the latest in the series. More monsters, more action, more adventure. Everything you want in a game, now with you wherever you go and playable online.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare - the epic first person melee fighter comes to PS3 Tuesday February 9 after a long delay. The game is currently also available for Xbox 360 and PC, too. Based on the beloved Age of Chivalry Half Life 2 mod, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is "set in a fictional yet gritty and realistic world" of Agatha. Players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players." Remember kids, killing a man with a sword is far more intimate than sniping them. You are warned.

Unmechanical Extended Edition (PS4 / PS3 / Vita) - the 2012 puzzler comes to consoles at last on Tuesday with new levels and bonuses. "Set in a fantastic world of flesh, rock and steel, a little robot is trapped in an underground complex. His journey to freedom will require you to solve a great variety of puzzling challenges. And while the game is easy to pick up and play, many of the challenges will truly test your logic, memory and wits.

Not to mention the wealth of games that just fall out of the sky unexpectedly! Hopefully these can keep you busy for quite some time.
