The new film will be directed by Tod Williams who previously directed Paranormal Activity 2. Stars attached to the film are John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, reports Bloody Disgusting. Given Cusack's performance in 1408 things are honestly looking pretty good for this picture.

Cusack will be playing main character Clay Riddle while Jackson will play Tom McCourt.

Trailer For Salem Season 2 Shows Mary Coming For Her Revenge

Cell tells the story of what would happen if the world suddenly went mad. The transmitter for this madness is the common cell phone. A mysterious pulse is sent out that drives the person who answered the call completely, violently insane.

The story follows a group of survivors as they try to make it to safety all the while fighting off blood thirsty zombie like remnants of humanity. There's no help coming.

The screenplay was written by the man himself, Stephen King.

His films haven't always been the top of the win pile, especially not for fans of his novels. However, with adaptations like 1408 and The Mist that actually did justice to his stories, this may be the season we see King rise above that curse.

It also doesn't hurt that he's directly involved with the project.

Now the question remains if the movie will be as bloody as the book which saw people ripping each other's throats out with their teeth.

Cell is currently in production and is slated to release later this year.
