World Of Warcraft Patch 6.1 Adds Colorblind Mode To Game Client

Blizzard has announced that alongside the new content, World of Warcraft's upcoming patch 6.1 will also feature support for colorblind players.

In a forum post by moderator Kaivax, the company made the announcement, stating, "you'll find a new user interface system that we've designed to assist players who have common visual issues related to colorblindness."

The menu will come with three colorblind spectrum wheels to select from, so it's not simply a 'click this button to enable colorblind mode' but rather a way to fine tune it to your particular mode of vision.

"These are designed to assist players who have one of the three types of dichromacy, and should be useful to those who have one of the three kinds of anomalous trichromacy: protanomaly, deuteranomaly, and tritanomaly." Kaivax said, "Each set of color adjustments is available via a handy dropdown selector, and each comes with a 'strength' slider. The farther to the right you set the slider, the more the game removes potentially problematic wavelengths of color for each type."

The step will assist the little color inconveniences, namely specifying between item rarity, friend and foe and other everyday encounters between player and the world.

"Enable UI Colorblind Mode. These text enhancements add certain words and phrases to the tooltips throughout the game-tooltips that, by default, use different colors to indicate useful information about objects, NPCs, and other players."

Patch 6.1 is still undergoing testing via the game's PTR. The new colorblind filter will go live when it does, which is hopefully soon.
