You're not experiencing a unique error or problem if you're failing to sign in to the game right now. Bungie announced planned maintenance ahead of time for today as the team implements changes that will allow updates moving forward.

Update: Bungie has extended the maintenance time for an hour until 1 p.m. PST. Original post below.

"Destiny will be offline for two hours tomorrow, starting at 10 a.m. Pacific. Service should resume by Noon, with gameplay unchanged," the developer said on Twitter. "Destiny Update 1.1.1 is planned to deploy later on this week, after tomorrow's maintenance."

Our Review Of The Art Of Destiny

The game will look the same to all of us when it returns, but rest assured changes were made behind the scenes. Bungie will be able to implement its new patch "later this week", which is bringing a host of changes leading up to the House of Wolves expansion.

One major change is the introduction of matchmaking to Heroic Weekly Strikes, which you can read more about here. Additionally, the patch is going to change around quite a few weapon attributes. Pulse Rifles are the main beneficiaries, getting a much-needed power boost, while Auto Rifles will become less effective at range (boooo). Stay tuned for a specific release date for the update.
