'Ghostbusters: The Board Game' Release Date Window & Price Announced: Arriving Just In Time For Halloween

Cryptozoic Entertainment has announced that their hugely successful Kickstarter-funded project Ghostbusters: The Board Game is coming to retailers this October, with a suggested retail price of $85.00. This is the first officially licensed Ghostbusters tabletop game in nearly 30 years, and it appears to have been worth the wait.

Over 8,000 people backed the game on Kickstarter, raising 1.5 million dollars and showing the world that even though it's been decades since the last film, interest in the property is as strong as ever.

The game itself is a 1-4 player co-op experience that sees you suiting up as one of the four main Ghostbusters (Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore and Ray Stantz) to bust some ghosts. You'll take them through a number of pre-writen scenarios that will offer all kinds of changes to gameplay and length accordingly. 47 plastic mini figures and one double-sized Stay Puft figure will bring you more fully into the world, and all the artwork and figures were designed by Dan Schoening, artist of IDW's Ghostbusters comic book.

We spoke with Cryptozoic creative director Adam Sblendorio at this year's Toy Fair and he mentioned that by crafting a fun co-op experience they believed they would be making the perfect gateway board game to newcomers.

“Ghostbusters is something that we really hope will bring people into the tabletop world,” said Sblendorio. “We don’t want to scare them off with competitive gameplay because there’s 350 million people who have not heard of Catan or Carcasonne, the ones that have become seemingly mainstream. I know you’re a preacher to the choir. We know you get tabletop games, but there’s still a lot of people who don’t know about this world.”

Due to the amount of production that goes into them, tabletop games rarely have a specific release date, but the knowledge that the game will be ready for us by Halloween just seems perfect. Here are the full contents of the box- you can find more info about it here.
