Xbox One Windows 10 Beta Update Is Now Ready for Use

About a week ago, Microsoft released the Beta version of their Windows 10 update for Xbox One that promised tons of new features, including backward compatibility, which will allow Xbox 360 playable in Xbox One. Although the first release looks promising, Microsoft was quick to follow it up with a lot of caveats including deletion of all updates, games, and progress on the machine basically restoring the console to its factory form.

Regardless of the warning, Beta testers went on to try the update and indeed the version had tons of issues, which is expected in the first place because it is the first one to be released. According to Windows Central, the first version continually crashed and the version number was older than the stable old Xbox app. However, when Microsoft released an updated version of the first one, it seemed to correct its crashing issue.

In addition, the Windows 10 update on the Xbox One game console will bring major changes like major UX overhaul which will make the game console's dashboard simpler and user-friendly. The update did not also bore any resemblance of the Windows 10 dashboard, which is a great move for Microsoft to distinguish the Xbox One from other machines who ran on Windows 10, Thurrott reported.

The navigation of the Xbox One will also be updated. The horizontal view of the menu will be replaced by tabs right at the top of the screen. The Home button is the only remnant of the old navigation. The pins are also gone and the friend list was changed to Community.

Also, a new Guide User Interface was put in and it works like a vertical hamburger menu/slide out menu on the left-hand side of the screen. The new Guide UI will give gamers quick access to tons of options, which is similar to the old Xbox app.

The update is just starting and so far testers are pleased with the development but what they are really looking forward to is the backward compatibility of the update which will allow them to play old titles to the new console. However, testers may have to wait a little bit longer for it since Microsoft earlier informed the public that the feature involves a lot of intricacies and is much harder to do than is expected.
