First Open Transgender Character To Debut In Upcoming Assasin's Creed: Syndicate

Assassin's Creed Syndicate broke the barrier as it introduces the first transgender, or the first open transgender, character this coming October during its official release. The game takes place in London during the Victorian era. The main protagonists are siblings Jacob and Evie Fry who are on the verge of shifting the balance of power in London's criminal underground, a major break away from last year's game where only the male character is controllable.

The game's first transgender character will be Wynert which the creators cleared earlier that his gender will not in any way affect his storyline. The organization also clarified that the character is in no way part of a marketing strategy.

Transgenders in a game is nothing new and one concrete example is the colored pink dinosaur Birdo from the Super Mario Bros 2. The character is widely seen as female because of the mascara and ribbon. Based on the booklet of the game, however, Birdo thinks she is a girl and would rather be called Birdetta.

Another concrete example was Tekken 6's Wushu boxer Leo, which Bandai Namco opted to put in neutral clothing to puzzle the crowd about his gender. Namco eventually revealed Leo's gender and confirmed that she was in fact Eleonor Kliesen. Recently, 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition introduced an experienced military officer who was interested in living as a man at an early age, the character; Krem Aclassi is set to return for the game's final expansion of the game, Trespasser.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is set to be released on October 23 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is also set to be released on November 19 for Windows.
