There is news that 20th Century Fox has registered two titles for the upcoming movie "Wolverine 3" and this made the fans anticipate it more. The titles "Weapon X" and "Wolverine: Weapon X" are now owned by the studio. This suggests that one of the titles will be officially used.
There have been speculations that James Mangold, the director or the Wolverine series, will put the subtitle "Weapon X" on the third movie. Intrigue on the matter is building up and now the rumor has been confirmed with the registration by the production house. The upcoming film will follow the story line of "The Wolverine" movie released in 2013.
It is reported that the third Wolverine movie will be the last time that Hugh Jackman will portray the character on the big screen. Viewers are curious over what kind of parting film for the character will be produced. Since news that "Weapon X" will be part of the title, it seems that moviegoers will get another glimpse of Logan's tortured past. Furthermore, this supports the post-credits scene in "X-Men Apocalypse" where "Weapon X" was featured in the laboratory, The Independent reported.
Looking into the "Weapon X" comic series, which ran in 2002 up to 2004, a female mutant character was introduced called "X-23." She was also known as "Female Wolverine." Now, fans are anticipating that X-23 will be seen in the third movie in one form or another.
The "Weapon X" movie is also marketed to be R-Rated and contains violence. The setting of the story will be sometime in the future. Mangold is expected to borrow a lot from the Wolverine franchise's deeply documented past, in terms of Logan's character, and at the same time pave a way for another young actor to take on the role of X-23, Screen Rant reported.
Fans say that it is sad to see Logan's character to exit. However, it is deemed necessary for Marvel to do this if they want to continue on expanding their Marvel Universe, especially in creating younger and new mutant characters. Creating "Weapon X" the movie is thought of to be a good tribute for the character's exit.
As of now, X-Men: Apocalypse is playing in Cinemas. Wolverine 3 or Weapon X will open in U.S. theaters on March 3, 2017. It will be followed by an unknown X-Men film to be released on October 6, 2017. On March 2, 2018, it is speculated that Deadpool 2 will be released, while X-Force is set to be out on June 29, 2018.
