'God of War 4' Rumors: What You Might Have Missed In The Trailer [VIDEO]

'God of War 4' Rumors: What You Might Have Missed In The Trailer [VIDEO]

The new "God of War" trailer definitely raises more questions than it initially answers, and most of them surround its unusual and uncharacteristic new setting, the land of the Norse. Why did Kratos move to Scandinavia? Which gods is he going to battle, if most of the gods who shaped the world are from his home pantheon? What's up with that full beard?

Well, we don't have all the answers yet, but a deeper look at "God of War's" E3 trailer has apparently yielded some clues, GamesRadar reports.

A fan from NeoGAF has discovered three hidden antagonists lurking in the trailer.

The first one he spotted was a "shadowy figure" skulking in the background, with curving horns growing from his forehead. A Reddit thread posts the theory that this man might be Loki, which would make Kratos the inspiration behind Odin within the game's universe, and his son becomes the model for Thor, the god of thunder. This would be in line with Kratos's son's ability to create lightning.

The second foe he found was a flying creature sporting bug-like wings and wielding a staff. This enemy is seen from a distance, so there isn't much information on what it could be.

The third baddie he discovered might be the biggest, best, and most badass secret this game might have (barring any other huge reveals or cool antagonists). If you watch the trailer closely around the 9:15 mark and notice the spot behind the foremost line of trees, you'll see what looks like ice floating down a river. They only look like ice, but on closer inspection, the flakes are all the same size, and you wouldn't find them in other places with water.

It's very much possible that these are actually discarded scales from the mighty Jormungand, the Midgar Serpent of Norse mythology. In the story of Ragnarok, the Norse end of the world, Jormungand is slated to kill and be killed by Thor; if Kratos's son is supposed to end up being mythologized as Thor, then it all makes sense.

We'll definitely learn more about "God of War" and its new setting as we get more updates and reveals.
