It's a long wait before "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will hit theaters next year, but director James Gunn is certainly making it worth the while. The social media-savvy helmer of the highly anticipated sequel to the 2014 blockbuster Marvel superhero took to Facebook to share a behind the scenes pic of Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt, with a note announcing the beginning of the countdown to the film that hits theaters next spring.
"Parks and Recreation" actor Chris Pratt, who shed pounds (and gained an impressive set of abs) for the role of Peter Quill, is showcased in the behind the scenes pic, alongside director James Gunn. It shows production filming against a blue screen, most likely a scene that takes place in outer space or one of the super galactic locations.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" was released in July 2014, earning a whopping $773.3 million and thereby making Pratt a viable leading man in his own right. Pratt next starred in "Jurassic World," which also reaped in the cash when it was released last year. Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" serves as the new Avengers, as it also brings together a team of oddballs to save the world. Also a Kevin Feige-produced movie, the film stars Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista, and features the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper in the titular roles.
Fans of "Guardians of the Galaxy" will be glad to know that the wait for the film will be filled with exciting surprises, as director James Gunn shared on Facebook that he, along with Pratt and the rest of the cast will be present at the San Diego Comic Con this month. Gunn wrote on Facebook that he and the rest of the gang will be part of the Marvel panel on Saturday, July 23 at 5:30 p.m., so for those who are interested in seeing Gunn, Pratt, and the rest of the Guardians in person, this is the chance to do so.
More interestingly, director James Gunn promised that they will have "something special for you there," inviting fans to come visit them at the SDCC. Whether or not the "something special" would be a teaser or even the first trailer for the highly anticipated film remains to be seen.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" arrives in theaters on April 25, 2017.
