'Avatar 4' to be a Prequel; 'Avatar 2' and 'Avatar 3' to be Released in December 2014 and 2015

James Cameron is busy scripting the second and third "Avatar" sequels. He will be shooting both movies back-to-back.

"It's a little bit of a daunting writing task because it's two scripts and they've both gotta be done at the same time," said the famed director to the Los Angeles Times.

Jon Landau, the producer, clarified that the second and third "Avatar" movies will be shot consecutively, ComingSoon reported.

The fourth of the "Avatar" movies will be a prequel, revealed Cameron.

"I haven't really put pen to paper on it, but basically it goes back to the early expeditions of Pandora, and kind of what went wrong with the humans and the Na'vi and what that was like to be an explorer and living in that world," he said in an interview to MTV. "Because when we drop in, even in the first film in 'Avatar 1', as it will be known in the future, we're dropping into a process that's 35 years in to a whole colonization."

And, between all of these, Cameron made a record-setting dive to the Mariana Trench and has been promoting the 3-D Blu-ray release of "Titanic."

Cameron will be making a prequel for the first time. Pre-production of the "Avatar" sequels will begin in January, Cameron said.

What can we expect to see in the coming versions of "Avatar"?

"We're doing 'Avatar' films now, so we're making up an ocean ecosystem for Pandora," Cameron told reporters. "It's all the scuba diving I did before I even started the deep ocean stuff that has more of a direct connection to Avatar 2 & 3, which by the way won't take place completely in or under the water. That's just part of the environment of Pandora that we're going to see."

The release date for "Avatar 2" and "Avatar 3" is being targeted at December 2014 and December 2015, respectively.
