With "Quantico" Season 2 getting the green light, a new name is being mentioned as series regular. Actor Blair Underwood is confirmed to take on the role of Owen Hall in the sophomore run of the ABC series.
"Quantico" Season 2's new character is described as "charming, direct and comfortable," as noted by The Hollywood Reporter. He's the intelligent CIA officer every newbie operative aspires to become or at least learn from; however, his motives are unclear. It's either he's mentoring the team or using them to accomplish a hidden agenda.
"Quantico" showrunner Joshua Safran expressed his excitement over Underwood's casting, saying there's nothing the actor can't do. "We look forward to creating a role that will showcase his huge range and boundless charisma," Safran commented.
Prior to "Quantico," Underwood appeared in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "The Good Wife."
Meanwhile, Safran also revealed that "everything slows down" in "Quantico" Season 2, particularly with respect to the progress of Alex and Ryan's relationship. The new season will be more unveiling as opposed to being explosive. With that said, the overall storyline of "Quantico" Season 2 will be less confusing than the first season.
Moreover, it is said that Alex will join the CIA in "Quantico" Season 2. Much of the operations of the CIA and the FBI and how these two agencies work together will be explored in the second season.
"The FBI teaches honest and trust and finding the truth and protection, and the CIA teaches deception and lying and twisting information to get what you want, what you need," Safran told Entertainment Weekly. "We're definitely interested in juxtaposing those two things and seeing how both sides work separately, and how they work when they're forced to work together.
With Alex moving to the CIA, a new story will unfold and new characters will be introduced, but some old faces will be retained. It is also rumored that Claire Hass will be an integral part of "Quantico" Season 2, considering that she still needs to pay the price.
As to past characters such as Liam, Safran also hinted the possibility of having them return in "Quantico" Season 2through flashbacks.
"Quantico" Season 2 is set to return to ABC this fall.
