Google's acquisition of the photo editor Snapseed will beef-up Google+ which is trying to attract more followers for its social network. The fight between Google+ and Facebook is heating up. Snapseed is a rival of Instagram, which Facebook acquired in April this year.

Senior vice president of engineering for Google, Vic Gundotra, announced news of the acquisition on his Google+ post.

"We want to help our users create photos they absolutely love, and in our experience Nik does this better than anyone," he said.

Gundotra also added that Google+ now has 400,000,000 people following it. Google+ was launched on June 28, 2011.

The company was brought out for an undisclosed amount. All the people who worked for Snapseed will now be relocated to Google's headquarters in Mountain View, The Verge said. San Diego, California-based Nik Software was established on 1995. It won the iPad App of the Year in 2011 for its photo editing interface.
