Rumors about South Korean technology giant Samsung unveiling its newest smartphone from its Galaxy line, S4, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February have been silenced by the company.
Samsung revealed this on its official Twitter account, the Examiner said.
The tweet stated that the news about it unveiling Galaxy S4 was not true and it had no plans of releasing it in the market. It asked why anyone would want to spread such a rumor.
The response from Samsung completely contrasts with Apple, which would not comment on rumors.
Samsung's Galaxy S3 is the only real competitor to Apple's iPhone 5 though Apple fans would not agree.
Samsung does not want its Galaxy S3 sales to be hit on account of this rumor, as was the case with Apple's iPhone 4S sales dropping due to the rumor that a newer iPhone 5 would be unveiled.
The original story was run by the Korean Times, which said the information was revealed by Samsung officials.
"Samsung is ready to unveil the next Galaxy smartphone _ the Galaxy S4 _ at early next year's mobile world congress (MWC) in the Spanish city of Barcelona," said an unnamed Samsung official, the Korea Times reported.
The report mentioned that the successor to S3 would have a larger screen display of 5 inches, going up from 4.8. It said it would also feature OLED display, full LTE support and would use more powerful quad-core processor.
Apple unveiled its next-generation iPhone 5 Wednesday and it would hit markets Sept. 21. Samsung launched its Galaxy S3 May 3, 2012.
Samsung may release Galaxy S4 in the future, but the question is when.
