MSN.com Rolls Out a New, Modern, Colorful Design to Match Windows 8 and IE 10

Microsoft launches the new and colorful avatar of its popular site MSN.com. It has a modern design that is built entirely for Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10.

The new version has been designed to match Windows 8's "tiles" and touch screen features. Microsoft claims it will be easier and faster with "instant access to the information you want." It also features news with Microsoft's own team of reporters for the first time.

This new version can only be seen by users who have the latest IE Web browser and are running on Windows 8, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The contents can be seen full screen with a better page layout and there is more fluidity with high resolution images. It gives users an "app-like" experience, said Microsoft. Users can use features like "Flip Ahead" to hop from article to article and a "Snap" feature that will push the rest of the site into the side of the screen.

"We're making this available only on Windows 8 machines running IE 10 so that we can showcase all the power of this new platform in support of the company's launch," Bob Visse, general manager, MSN, told the Wall Street Journal.

MSN has 480 million visitors per month.

The site was launched in 1990 by Microsoft as they feared America Online would be harmful for their business. MSN gets traffic from people who check Hotmail.com.

For the first time, journalists will take charge of the news section of the site. The site has teamed up with Reuters and Associated Press to provide content. A new MSN News with stories not more than 300-500 words is also being introduced providing users with quick intuitive information.

This will be available on Oct. 26.
