Entertainment Weekly has taken its magazine to a whole new level, by carrying a fully-functional smartphone that was embedded between the pages, reports Mashable.
The action was part of a one-of-a- kind ad run by CW, a TV network. The ad was to promote the network's new lineup of action shows. It was designed to show their readers live updates over a tiny LCD screen that was sandwiched between the pages of the magazine.
Two short clips of the shows were seen on the tiny LCD screen, which later switched to live tweets from CW's Twitter account.
"The ad is powered by a custom-built, smartphone-like Android device with an LED screen and 3G connectivity; it was manufactured in China," a CW representative said to Mashable.
Mashable deconstructed the magazine and found a smartphone-sized battery, a full QWERTY keyboard hidden under a black plastic tape, a T-Mobile 3G card, a camera, speaker and a live USB port that can be plugged into a PC for charging.
After some research, Mashable found out that it was an 86 ABO smartphone. Entertainment Weekly produced only 1,000 of such magazines.
