Google recently rolled out a new feature on Tuesday for its Google Play store where users can try out in-app subscriptions before buying them.
"For any subscription, you can set up a free trial period that lets users try your subscription content before buying it," reported a post on the Android Developers website. "The trial period runs for the period of time that you set and then automatically converts to a full subscription managed according to the subscription's billing interval and price."
This feature will let developers set a free trial period, which will not be charged, though users are required to give their banking details. A user will only be charged after his trial period expires.
Developers can offer only "one free trial period per subscription product." They are not required to change their APK (Android application package file), rather, it can be set up in Developer Console. There must be a minimum trial period of at least seven days.
Users can also cancel the trial at any time before the trial period gets over.
The subscription service, though, seems to target magazines primarily. DroidGamer suggests it could be utilized by MMORPG developers as well.
