'Man of Steel 2' Release Date, News & Update: Warner Bros. Pushing Through with Project, Film to Arrive in 2018?
With the success of this year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" despite the critics reviews, it seems that Warner Bros. is looking to continue Clark Kent's journey as the "Man of Steel." While a sequel has not been talked about for quite some time also in part of this year's collaborative flick, it seems that the studio is still looking to create a sequel for the 2013 film that knighted Henry Cavill as a movie star.
It's been three years since the David S. Goyer-written film opened and closed to a whopping $668 million worldwide, establishing it as a successful interpretation of the DC Comics hero. But is Warner Bros. looking to continue on Superman's journey with "Man of Steel 2?" The answer is yes. The Wrap reports that a sequel is currently in active development at Warner Bros. In fact, fans need not worry about Superman being pushed aside by Ben Affleck's Batman and "Justice League," (which trailer debuted during this year's SDCC), because the sequel is now "a top priority for the studio."
The source also told The Wrap that "getting the character right for audiences is of tantamount importance." One thing's for sure though, it's way too early to figure out what story may unravel with Superman's "Man of Steel 2." For one, both "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League" are arriving next year. While Superman has no role in "Wonder Woman," he will be teaming up again with the other DC Universe superheroes for "Justice League." "Aquaman," on the other hand, is set to arrive in July 2018.
If the studio adheres to that timeline, it seems that "Man of Steel" may arrive in early 2018, following the two-per-year film schedule. The standalone Batman flick featuring Affleck at the helm does not have a release date set yet, so that's another ball in the air for the studio. Fans can rest easy now, though, knowing that their favorite otherworldly superhero will be back to further his story on the big screen.
