Since its September release, Apple's iOS 6 and iPhone 5 have been plagued with problems.
First, it was Apple's "Maps" app. Then it was the iCloud, followed by Wi-Fi issues, then it was the purple haze/halo in the camera.
And the problems keep on coming.
Reports have suggested that now, app developers are facing problems with iOS 6 in the App Store. Developers voiced their displeasure, complaining that the new App Store is not helping independent developers, favoring established studios instead.
Critics also said that the App Store does not have the "Sort by Release Date" option. The tabs are now confined only to paid, free and top grossing, Develop Online reported.
"For a small developer, this is terrible news," developer Chris Newman said in a report by Develop Online. "Although it's only for a short period, the 'new release' exposure is extremely valuable. It's our opportunity to grab people's attention, build the initial user base and gauge the public's reaction without needing to spend a fortune on marketing. The new system only gives exposure to titles that are already in the charts. How does a new app break through? There is absolutely no way of being discovered unless a user is linked to your app directly, or searches for the app by name."
Newman also criticized how the results research appeared on the page. Previously, there were five visible apps per page but now it has been reduced to one. This not only slows down the process of searching, but also acts as a hindrance to discovering new apps in the store.
"This is a massive distortion of exposure towards the already-successful apps," he said. "Those that are top of the search results (we assume, although we don't know, because they are popular) are placed full screen in a user's face. To get further down the list requires effort. A lot of effort."
Newman also criticized the lack of space that was available to show a game's full title, lack of support for landscape apps and its search results that recommended "bird puzzles" for "word puzzles."
Another developer pointed out that the App Store's "New" section shows apps that are months old.
Apple's App Store is a very popular offering with millions of free and paid apps available for download for the users. The Store acts as a platform for a lot of independent developers to help showcase their work.
Yet another problem the Cupertino-based company will have to resolve.
