Google Developing Maps App for iOS? Leaked Photos Emerge

Images of the upcoming Maps app of Google for iOS have been leaked on the Internet.

The images show that Google is working on a standalone Maps app for iOS. They were posted by developer Ben Guild. He claimed that the photos are from an alpha version of the app.

Guild also adds that Google's Maps app for iOS will be vector-based and will support two-finger rotation. He said it will be "super fast" and will support the iPhone 5, which has a 4-inch screen.

The images themselves do not reveal much of what is already known about Google Maps.

Apple made a strategic decision to omit the Google's Maps app in the iPhone 5 or iOS 6. Apple introduced its own in-house "Maps" app that boomeranged, firing up criticism from users for inaccurate maps, providing wrong locations and showing up weird maps.

iPhone 5 users have been patiently waiting for Google's Maps app.

Google CEO Larry Page has neither confirmed nor denied if his company is working on a Maps app for iOS. But the company did confirm that they haven't yet submitted an application to Apple's App Store.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple apologized in September for the faulty Apple "Maps" app.

"With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment," Cook said. "We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better."

He even went on to suggest that users use alternatives like third party apps from Google and Nokia through mobile web browsers.

"While we're improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app," he said in an apology letter.
