Apple and Samsung continue to wage their long-line of court battles across continents. Apple has appealed against a Tokyo court ruling that went in favor of its rival Samsung.
The court ruled Samsung had not infringed on the Cupertino-based company's patents.
Tokyo District Court ruled on Aug. 31 that Samsung did not infringe on Apple's invention of technology for synchronizing music and video data with servers. Apple was asked to pay the costs of the lawsuit by Judge Tamotsu Shoji. Apple appealed the ruling, Bloomberg reported.
Apple and Samsung have been fighting out various court battles around the world. In August, the jury in San Jose, California, ordered Samsung to cough up more than $1 billion in damages after the Suwon, South Korea-based company was found to have violated Apple's features.
The spokeswoman for Apple in Beijing could not be reached, a spokesman for Samsung based in Seoul said Samsung did not have anything to comment.
Photographer Sabine Liewald of Switzerland filed a lawsuit against Apple for misusing her "Eye Closeup" photograph that was to be used only for "layout purposes." But Apple ended up using her image for advertising, including on its website, CNET reported.
Apple reported that Liewald filed a case against the company in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York earlier this week. She also sought the help of a jury to "determine damages and potential lost profits." She revealed that her image was copyright protected.
Apple has not commented on the issue so far.
