"The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Avengers" that were released earlier this year and quickly began two of the best and highest grossing superhero movies ever.
"The Dark Knight Rises" cinematographer Wally Pfister criticized the camerawork of "The Avengers," calling the movie "appalling."
Pfister won an Academy Award for his work in "Inception." In his interview to Sarasota Herald Tribune, he takes a dig at "The Avengers."
"What's really important is storytelling. None of it matters if it doesn't support the story. I thought 'The Avengers' was an appalling film," he said. "They'd shoot from some odd angle and I'd think, why is the camera there? Oh, I see, because they spent half a million on the set and they have to show it off. It took me completely out of the movie. I was driven bonkers by that illogical form of storytelling."
But he also said that the he was not a big superhero fan. He is also a steadfast supporter of using the film reels over digital for movies, like Christopher Nolan, Collider reported
Cinematography of "The Avengers" was the work of Seamus McGarvey, who's worked on movies like "Atonement," "We Need to Talk About Kevin" and recently, "Anna Karenina."
Pfister will be moving away from cinematography and will be wearing the director's hat for a new project that will be produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas. He only revealed that the movie is a present day science fiction.
