There might be an ultimate showdown taking place in 2015. Warner Bros. recently revealed plans to resurrect "Justice League" immediately after winning a key copyright case in the court.
The ruling from the court gave Warner Bros. full ownership to the copyright of Superman. The "Justice League" will be an all-star DC Comics superhero movie that will directly compete with Marvel Studios' "The Avengers 2."
"The Avengers 2" is scheduled to launch May 1, 2015. Warner Bros. will kick start their superhero push with Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" which will hit theaters June 14, 2013.
Warner Bros. might start shooting the "Justice League" movie next year, possibly aiming for a summer 2015 release, the Los Angeles Times reported. The movie could feature Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, Aquaman and the Green Lantern.
There were rumors that Ben Affleck was going to direct the movie, but the "Argo" director denied the claims in an interview to 24 Hours this August.
"I'm not working on the 'Justice League'" he said. "One of the problems with entertainment web sites is that they need to fill pages, and that's how rumors get started. 'Justice League' sounds really exciting, but it's not something I'm working on."
Marvel took time to build its cinematic universe. Can DC do the same in such a short time?
Joss Whedon's "The Avengers" was a huge commercial success. "The Justice League" will have to start from scratch. Will Beall is working on scripting the project. Warner Bros. is yet to finalize a director for the project.
Reports have suggested that standalone superhero movies will be made only after "The Justice League" is completed. The summer of 2015 promises to be a busy one for superhero movie buffs.
