Captain America Winter Soldier Release Date: The Villain Crossbones Has Been Cast

Captain America villain Crossbones has been cast for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and will be played by Frank Grillio, who recently appeared in both "The Grey" and "Warrior," according to story reported by IGN via Variety.

Last week Grillo tweeted about auditioning for the part and used the hashtag "Bones" to tease fans with a hint. Grillo also used Twitter to announce and confirm that he had been cast in the role.

"Thanks all!! Couldn't be happier to join the Marvel family," Grillo tweeted. "Great people. Great character and. My kids will freak out best of all. #grateful."

In the comics Crossbones began his criminal life as the leader of the Savage Crims gang in New York's lower east side. He fled the city after committing a murder and joined the Taskmaster's school for criminals. He later became a mercenary and began working for Captain America villain Red Skull.

The IGN article also confirmed that S.H.I.E.L.D members Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Furry will be returning in the new film alongside Avenger member Black Widow, who is played by Scarlett Johansson. Sebastian Stan will be returning as Bucky Barnes, who was thought to be dead in the first film, but will return as titular villain The Winter Soldier.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" will also see Anthony Mackie bring to life the Marvel super hero Falcon. The character was mainstream comics' first African-American superhero. In the comics The Falcon aka Sam Wilson came into existence when the Red Skull used the cosmic cube to mentally fuse Wilson with Redwing, creating a mental link that eventually gave Wilson powers over all birds.

"Captain America: Winter Soldier" is a American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Captain America and is set to release on April 4, 2014. Chris Evans will return as the titular super hero.
