‘Pokemon GO’ Latest News & Update: Gyarados Downgrade Makes it Weaker After Update? Popularity Now Under Threat

One of the most sought after "Pokemon GO" Pokemon is Gyarados. However, reports suggest players should not evolve Magikarp, especially after Niantic's latest update. A player needs a total of 400 Magikarp Candies simply to evolve it to Gyarados. The recent update by the company, in order to make the game more balanced, now requires a nerf to Gyarados.

"Pokemon GO" character Gyarados, among the 19 Pokemon nerfs, received a downgrade as one of its very useful moves, Dragon Breath, was removed. It was one of Gyarados' best attacks and was used by players worldwide.

While some players are of the opinion that the removal of Dragon Breath has not made much of a difference, many argue that the Pokemon is much weaker after the update. The attack is best used against a Dragonite, a commonly-used defender in Pokemon Gyms.

As Gyarados has been nerfed, another alternative to counter it is a Lapras. But Lapras is not a common catch in "Pokemon GO," writes The Bitbag.

The ones who believe that the recent update has not made much of a difference believe Gyarados' quick moves have the same DPS as before. They however agree it has been rendered useless against a Dragonite.

Now that players require a nerf and an insane amount of candies to evolve Magikarp, Gyarados may lose a lot of its popularity. It may no longer be a Pokemon worth so much trouble in Niantic's "Pokemon GO." However, due to its Dragon and Water type, Gyarados can still be a good Pokemon.

Moreover, evolving a Magikarp is excruciatingly time-taking. Due to "Pokemon GO" game's set move sets, Gyarados lovers may not be able to utilize his Dragon type advantage to the fullest due to users' inability to set it up with more defensive capabilities.

It seems Dragonite is all set to gain more popularity after Gyarados downgrade. Stay tuned to GamenGuide for more "Pokemon Go" news amd updates!
