Man Of Steel Release Date: Director Zack Snyder Talks Bringing Superman Back To The Big Screen

Warner Bros. upcoming reboot of Superman, titled "Man of Steel," will be releasing on June 14, 2013 and is directed by Zack Snyder, produced by Christopher Nolan and scripted by David S. Goyer.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Snyder discussed how the team behind the new film took the Superman mythology seriously and how it was an honor to work on the "king-daddy" of super heroes.

"It's a more serious version of Superman," Snyder said. "It's not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you're going to see a Superman you've never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made. He's the king-daddy."

Snyder went to explain that Superman is the father of all super heroes and that he wanted to make a film that examined the characters mythology as well as his popularity.

"I'm interested in Superman because he's the father of all superheroes," Snyder said. "He's this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What we've made as a film not only examines that but is also an amazing adventure story. It's been an honor to work on. As a comic book fan, Superman is like the Rosetta Stone of all superheroes. I wanted to be sure the movie treated it respectfully."

The director also said that he said no to directing the "Superman" movie when producer Christopher Nolan approached him.

"It's funny, when Chris Nolan came to me and said 'Do you want to do Superman?' I was like 'No! That's a difficult one,' Snyder said. "But I felt like I knew the rules. I understand the rules of Superman - not necessarily better than anyone else - but better than a normal filmmaker would."

The "Man of Steel," stars Henry Cavill in the title role, with Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Michael Shannon as General Zod. Russell Crowe will play Superman's biological father Jor-El with Kevin Costner and Diane Lane playing his adoptive parent Jonathan and Martha Kent.
