Varu War Elephants Introduced In New "Civilization 6" Trailer

If peaceful means fail, the Indian Civ can be a fearsome offensive war machine as well. The great "Civilization 6" leader Gandhi has at his disposal the Varu war elephants, military units that reduces combat strength of adjacent enemies.

'Civilization 6' Leaders - Will Gandhi Still Love His Nukes?

However, it is still unclear if the upcoming game would correct Gandhi's well-known tendency by long-time Civilization players. Among the "Civilization" leaders in the past, Gandhi has been noted for his tendency to use nuclear weapons.

Apparently, there is an explanation for the Civilization 6 leader's undue aggression in past games. It all started as a glitch in the original Civ game, according to Kotaku. Each Civilization leader was assigned a numerical value known as the aggression rating which determines how warlike the Civ leader can get when played by the PC's AI.

Being the most pacifist of all, Gandhi was assigned the lowest aggression rating of 1. As the game progresses and democracy is used as the government of choice by the player, the aggression rating for each leader is reduced by 2, reflecting a more pacifist stance in general. But since Gandhi is already 1, something unintended happens when the game deducts 2 from it his aggression rating. It goes to an all time high of 255 making him the most warlike Civilization leader of all time.

While the bug is no longer present in later games, it has become some sort of a running joke between gamers and devs. His nuke rating or the tendency to use nuclear weapons is still the highest at 12, while other leader are at low 4 to 6 region.

'Civilization 6' Release Date

It still remains to be seen if Gandhi's preference for nukes will be retained in the latest game. Players will soon find out when "Civilization 6" release date arrives this October 21.
