PS4 Pro Release Date, Specs, News& Updates: Launch Date Confirmed; Here's Every Detail We Know So Far

Sony recently provided details about the PlayStation 4 Pro, a new and more powerful version of the current-generation gaming console. The PS4 Pro was unveiled on Sept. 7, 2016 and will reportedly become available in November.

According to Sony, the PS4 Pro will complement the standard version of the PlayStation 4. The upcoming system is still part of the current model, although geared towards higher-end players. The architecture has not changed much, although the PS4 Pro is set to provide high-fidelity graphical experiences to give developers tools that further their visions. GameSpot revealed that Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO shared some of their plans during the PlayStation Meeting event. He said that Sony is determined to pursue 4K and HDR, which will appear on the PS4 Pro.

Mark Cerny, lead architect of the project, added that they wanted Sony to bring the PS4 experience to extraordinary new levels. The PS4 Pro allows developers to use the additional power to improve visual fidelity on a standard 1080p TVs. The extra power can also be used to enhance visual density and introduce other visual adjustments that can be enjoyed on non-4K TVs. Several patches for Sony titles are reportedly in development to work on PS4 Pro, while third-party developers are also working on patches to enjoy the new hardware.

Similar discs and downloadable content will continue to run on both the standard PS4 and PS4 Pro, although these may be presented in different forms. Cerny showed a few games running on PS4 Pro in 4K and described how the upcoming console will feature major visual improvements. During launch, PS4 Pro players can download the patches for certain games for enhancement. Future releases will already have built-in enhancements.

PlayStation Blog wrote that the PS4 Pro will feature an octa-core x86-64 AMD Jaguar CPU, AMD Radeon GPU with 4.20 TFLOPS and 8GB of GDDR5 memory. It also has 1TB storage space, an HDMI out port with 4K and HDR support and a digital out (optical port). The PS4 Pro is set to launch on Nov. 10, 2016 at a retail price of $399.99. More updates and details are expected soon.
