Mass Effect 3's Commander Shepard, Assassin's Creed 3's Connor And The Best Video Game Heroes of 2012

Every year video games have their fare share of great protagonist, those heroes that we gamers join on magical quest and galactic wars. The year 2012 is no different; here is our list of the top five heroes of 2012:

 5. The Walking Dead-Lee Everett:

Everett is a not a hero by choice, but by circumstances. The convicted felon's personality is completely up to the player and this makes him one of the best heroes of the 2012. Not much is known about his past, he was once a college professor at the University of Georgia. Before the zombie apocalypse he is convicted of murdering a senator who had an affair with his wife. What really makes Lee a likeable protagonist is his unyielding protection of the young orphan, Clementine.

4. Halo 4- Master Chief:

Halo 4 marked Spartan-117 triumphant return to the realm of video games and gave long-time fans of the franchise a glimpse into the mind of Master Chief. The game begins after the events of Halo 3 and sees a cryogenically frozen Master chief revived to battle a new threat to the galaxy. Master Chief battles against the evil Didact and his malicious plans as he tries to save the one thing that matters to him most, the AI Cortana.

3. Assassin's Creed III- Connor:

"In the name of liberty, I will fight the enemy regardless of their allegiance," Connor says in Ubisot latest Assassin's Creed video game. He is one of the oldest hero archetypes in the business, a man fighting for the greater good of humanity. The best thing about playing as Connor, is that we get to take him through his personal journey. We start out as a carefree child and grow into as a war-harden assassin. Connor is the naïve of the series' assassins, but by the time the game ends he is also the more well rounded.

2. Far Cry 3- Jason Brody

Brody is the every-man of Far Cry 3, who is forced to the extreme by his need to survive Rook Island. Jason is transformed into a hero after the sadistic pirate Vaas Montenegro kidnaps Jason and his friends. Montenegro threatens to sell the group into slavery or to extort money from their families. Jason and his brother get free, but Jason's brother is killed during their escape. Jason soon transformed by the savage jungle and ruthless island into a man on a mission to rescue his friends.

1. Mass Effect 3- Commander Shepard:

Commander Shepard sacrifices everything in the final chapter of the Mass Effect Trilogy. Shepard is the grizzled veteran of many battles at this point in the story. He or she has lost several friends and witness unimaginable horrors. In Mass Effect 3, Shepard transition from a soldier to an icon and legend. Each individual gamer shaped his or her very own Commander Shepard, but no matter what choices they made during the journey, Shepard is the greatest hero of 2012.
