Total War- Rome 2 Release Date: Developer Discusses The Battle Of Carthage (See Video Here)

Total War: Rome II is an upcoming strategy game being created by developer, The Creative Assembly. The new game is will be released in October 2013 for Microsoft Windows PC.

The game's publisher, Sega has recently released a new developer video about the developer's efforts to recreate the historical conflict between the Punic city of Carthage in Africa and the Roman Republic. This skirmish of the Third Punic War is known as the Battle of Carthage.

"Rome II is going to be an absolutely massive game. It is by far the biggest and best Total War game ever," according to lead designer, James Russell. In the video, the development team says that they had to build the largest in-game city ever featured in the series.

"One of the problems we have of depicting huge cities like Carthage in game is that on the one hand you got to be faithful to what the place was actually like, said creative director, Mike Simpson. "But on the hand it has to fit into the context of the game. There are trade of trade between depicting as exactly the correct scale and making a game that is playable."

Sega recently revealed that the forces of Carthage would be Rome II: Total War's second playable faction. Here is what the game's official Wiki says about the state:

"Carthage is an expansionist trading state with a small indigenous population. As such, the bulk of its armies consist of mercenary units. The core of its land forces, however, are elite Carthaginian citizens known as the Sacred Band and mighty war elephants from the forests of North Africa. Accomplished seamen, their ships are fast and maneuverable, with good ramming and missile capabilities.

As a playable faction, Carthage benefits from its mastery of the waves and its heritage as a great trading nation. As a democracy, it also enjoys an improved level of population happiness. The player also has the choice to play as one of three major political powers, each of which confers further military, economic and cultural benefits."
