It is 12/21/12 and the Mayan Apocalypse is upon us! Run to year nearest video game console, get some snacks and pop in your favorite post-apocalyptic video game. Here is our list of the top three post-apocalyptic video games in recent memory:
3. Darksiders series:
Vigil Games' action-adventure romp into Armageddon lets players take on the role of War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The game features an all out war between heaven and hell with everything being annihilated in its wake. War is sent to earth bring order over the warring factions. The game is mix of God of War, Zelda and Devil May Cry. Vigil Game released a parallel sequel that featured Death, another member of the Four Horsemen. Both games featured awesome art and great hack and slash action.
2. Gears of War Trilogy:
Epic Games' military science fiction third-person shooter introduces gamers to the fictional planet Sera and its population's battle against the relentless subterranean enemy known as the Locust Horde. In part 2, the situation takes a turn for the worst as we discover the Locusts are locked in an underground civil war between the normal Locust and the "Lambent." The series finally sees the human forces victories against the Lambent and Locus forces. The remainder of humanity is left to rebuild civilization on Sera. Not only is the game set in apocalyptical world, but it also has excellent cover and squad tactics.
1. Fallout Series:
Bethesda Game Studios' action role-playing open world video game takes place 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse devastated the game's world. The catastrophe was cause by international conflicts between the USA and China that culminated in a Sino-American war. The game showcases war-ravaged American landmarks such as the White House, The Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. The game is set in, Capital Wasteland, a grouping of small settlements where the descendants of survivors from the Great War live. Most of the areas population was killed during the nuclear holocaust. Fallout 3 is a great post-apocalyptic video game because it is a more complete post apocalyptical experience allowing players to start out as a "Newborn." Gamers get a better understanding of the rebuilt society without having to automatically shoot everything that moves. You also get to determine the race, the gender, and the general appearance of their character.
