MTV hasn't given any official renewal order for "Scream" season 3 prompting rumors of cancellation online. More so, cancellation rumors were piqued further after MTV announced a special episode to air on Halloween.

Falling Ratings In Season 2

MTV has been tight-lipped regarding the renewal of "Scream" season 3, prompting fans to doubt if they would see their favorite characters again on the small screen. The thriller series concluded its second season in August, which pulled in an average rating of 0.19 per TV Series Finale. This rate is actually 45.10 percent lower than the ratings from the previous season. Typically, the best indication of a show's chances of staying on air is their rating, the website noted.

"Scream" season 3 may not be possible anymore as it failed to capture and retain viewers. Though the show isn't exactly a big hit in its first season, it was enough for MTV to renew it for another one. However, the series may see its last following the reports of low TV ratings.

Special Episode of 'Scream'

Instead of ordering "Scream" season 3, MTV decided to air a special Halloween episode that will answer some of the questions fans might have per Parent Herald. This prompted many fans to believe that another season won't be ordered since most of the questions will be answered in the special episode. As a result, fans started an online petition to save the series.

Turns out, "Scream" season 3 has developed a solid fan base. The fans expressed their desire to see the series on the small screen again.
