"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 is expected to tackle the issue on domestic violence which writer and producer Shonda Rhimes did not think of doing initially. She said that she felt it is time to tell Jo's story especially in the context of Alex.

Jo and Alex, according to Rhimes are so defined by who they used to be and who they are trying to become. Rhimes continued to discuss that Alex and Jo's commonality over rising above their scrappy upbringings initially brought them together. However, that could now ultimately drive them apart in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13, IB Times reported.

Justin Chambers who plays Alex, on the other hand, said that Alex and Jo bonded over the past. So, he thinks that Alex is going to feel betrayed in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 if he finds out that Jo left her past out that is a pretty big piece of her puzzle.

The storyline of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 is suggested to be part and parcel of the show putting focus on the remaining original characters including Alex, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Webber (James Pickens Jr) according to Chambers. He added that Meredith will always be the nucleus because she is the voice but to have the other four originals still is pretty amazing, Hollywood Life reported.

Additionally, the said storyline has been in the making for several years. Those who have followed "Grey's Anatomy" may remember Jo's former fling Jason Myers also known as Chest Peckwell who was severely beaten after he hit Jo. This would make a lot more sense in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 as Jo's history unveils.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 concept on Jo's history is something that the writers have discussed about for years now according to Rhimes. She explained how they have been questioning each other about the right time to reveal the story. She added that they have been trying to figure out when to actually deploy the said storyline.
