Robert Griffin III evaded a tackler and broke down the sideline during a third-quarter 61-yard touchdown run, swinging the momentum back to the Washington Redskins in their 37-24 NFC Wild Card Playoff victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Griffin's touchdown run gave the Redskins a 30-24 lead after the Seahawks had gone ahead for the first time in the game on a 48-yard field goal by Seattle kicker Steven Hauschka to make it 24-23.
Rookie running back Alfred Morris rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns, while 12-year pro wide receiver Santana Moss, had a 16-yard touchdown catch among eight receptions for 82 yards.
Griffin looked great in his playoff debut throwing for 290 yards passing and two touchdowns. He also had 84 yards rushing including the 61-yard touchdown run.
Seattle rookie quarterback Russell Wilson also had his moments in the game including a 7-yard touchdown pass to Sidney Rice on an 18 play, 85-yard opening drive.
Wilson finished 18-of-27 for 193 yards and Marshawn Lynch added 114 yards rushing and a 1-yard touchdown rush that made it 14-10 just before the end of the second quarter.
Washington recommitted to the run in the second half of the game and its defense caused Wilson to struggle late in the game. He threw a costly interception at the goal line in the third quarter, and then fumbled at the Seattle 42 on the Seahawks' final drive of the game effectively sealing the win for the Redskins.
The game was a rematch of the 2007 wildcard matchup that saw the Seattle Seahawks defeat the Washington Redskins 35-14. The playoff victory is the first such victory since the Redskins defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the 2005 playoff tourney.
