Platinum Games Is Interested In THQ's Darksiders Series

The Darksiders, an action-adventure and post-apocalyptic video game franchise, was not sold in the auction of THQ's assets, but there is at least one video game developer interested in securing the rights to the series.

Platinum Games, the developer of Bayonetta, has informally expressed interest in purchasing the rights to the Darksiders' franchise, according to a report from Digital Spy.

Various game companies including, Sega, Koch Media, Crytek, Take Two Interactive, and Ubisoft purchased numerous studios and intellectual properties that once belonged to THQ.

But Vigil Games and its Darksiders series remain unsold, which prompted the game's lead designer Haydn Dalton to Tweet a rather cryptic remark. He tweeted, "There was a shimmer on a slither of hope, that at one point, there'd be a Darksiders III: 4 Player Co-Op; It rode off into the sunset today."

However there may be hope for the series as Platinum Games executive director and producer Atsushi Inaba said via Twitter that he would be interested obtaining the intellectual property.

"Oh man, in THQ's big sale it looks like nobody's bought Darksiders... I'd love to buy that (if it was cheap)," Inaba said, as translated by Polygon.

Digital Spy notes that it is still unclear whether Platinum Games will actually attempted to purchase and secure the rights to the franchise, but it does appear that Platinum is at the very least recruiting former Vigil developers.

According to the article Platinum Games writer and Translator JP Kellams tweeted Dalton with a more direct offer. Kellams wrote, "If anyone is interested in working with/at Platinum let me know how to get ahold of you via DM."

So perhaps there is still hope for the Darksiders series. The most recent entry in the series was Darksiders II. It was released in August 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, and later for Nintendo's Wii U.
