Saints Row 4 And Metro: Last Light's Rights Now Belong To Deep Silver, The Publisher of Dead Island: Riptide

In a recent statment, the Germany based Koch Media has confirmed its purchase of the Saints Row and Metro intellectual properties from the now defunct THQ for the total price of $28 million.

Kock Media called the acquisition a "perfect fit," and the deal included Illinois-based Volition - the developer of Saints Row, along with all the rights to publish and distribute the games Metro: Last Light and Saints Row 4, according to a new report from Computer and Video Games.

The intellectual properties and studio were sold during THQ's bankruptcy auction that took place behind closed-doors. THQ has been striped of its assets and has cease business.

Koch Media is the parent company of gaming publisher Deep Silver. The publisher is gearing up to release the Techland developed Dead Island: Riptide, a spin-off of Dead Island.

According to the CVG article, Koch Media said it will invest in "all further development and marketing on the Saints Row and Metro franchises," and Deep Silver's international commercial director, Menno van der Bil said the company's record for publishing "out-of-the-ordinary games" made it a perfect for THQ's franchises.

"We're really excited to lead these well-respected licenses into a bright new future," van der Bil said in a statement. "We also welcome the legendary development studio Volition to the Koch Media/Deep Silver group."

He added, "Deep Silver already has a track record for out-of-the-ordinary games, including the immensely successful Dead Island brand. Both the Saints Row and the Metro franchises perfectly fit into our future lineup and strategy."

Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media GmbH also said that the former THQ franchises would fit in with Deep Silver's plans for the next generation.

"Koch Media welcomes the addition of these magnificent franchises to the Koch Media family of entertainment properties," Kundratitz said. "With more than 200 games on notable platforms globally, and its proven success creating renowned franchises like Dead Island, Deep Silver is perfectly positioned to lead these brands into the next generation of interactive entertainment for fans around the world."
