Saints Row Series Could Be Better Than Grand Theft Auto, According To Gears Of War Co-Creator Cliff Bleszinski

Volition's Saint Row series is kind of a parody of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto franchise, which is sort of parody of gangster films.

Gears of War co-creator Cliff Bleszinski recently took to his Twitter account to express his thoughts on Volition's open-world franchise, according to the Official Xbox Magazine.

The former Epic Games employee said that the Saints Row series could "give GTA a run for their money" if Volition tune down some of the immature missions and gags that can make the game embarrassing to the average gamer.

"If your average guy is embarrassed to be playing a sequence in a game when his wife walks in that's a bad sign," Bleszinski tweeted. "The SR team is amazing. Dildo holds them back. It's immature. Make an open world game that's more Michael Mann/HEAT/Collateral/Training Day."

He went on to praise the development team, but says that the use of sex toys in the video game doesn't benefit industry wide perceptions.

"The SR team is one of the few that could actually give GTA a run for their money. BF didn't go after COD by putting d***s on their guns," Bleszinski tweeted. "Yes, I think the dildo is hilarious. (I also had a big dildo as a prop in our wedding's photo booth.) It doesn't help industry perceptions."

Despite the game's great mechanics, graphics, pacing and control system, the inclusions of sex toys means that the game will be labeled unfairly, according to Bleszinski.

"Game mechanic wise I found SR3 to be more fun than many recent GTA games," Bleszinski tweeted. "Controls, pacing, etc... Are all great." However, "once you put a dildo in your game it doesn't matter if your controls, pacing, graphics are all great. You're 'that game with the dildo.'"

Saints Row: The Third was originally released back in November 2011. The plot centers on returning characters the Boss, Shaundi and Johnny Gat. The trio find themselves jailed after a botched bank robbery. They are released to meet with a new criminal organization, which does not go way. They soon find themselves displaced in Steelport and on the locked into a budding rivalry with a new international criminal organization called the Syndicate.

What do you think about Bleszinski's comments? Do you think he is right or do you think Saints Row humor is what sets it apart from other open-world games? Did you find GTA 4 boring? Let us know what you think in the comment section below...
