Prince Of Persia Series Taking A Break, According To Ubisoft

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands released in 2010 and was the last new game released in the franchise for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

This May will mark three years since the game's release and fans of the series have been left wondering when will they see the return of the Prince.

In a recent interview with IGN, Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat said that the Prince of Persia franchise will be "paused" for the time being as part of Ubisoft's brand management practices.

"Brand management is a tricky thing, Mallat told IGN. " It needs people's attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused. But we said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it."

Mallet told IGN that fans of the series shouldn't be concerned by the Prince's absence from video gaming and that the franchise will resurface when it is ready.

"I'm not scared at all for Prince of Persia fans," he said. "We'll find something to entertain them with in the future. Prince of Persia is part of Ubisoft's portfolio. As a matter of fact, we sometimes iterate on franchises and sometimes we give them time to breathe and time to grow, or time to rest."

Mallet added, "Prince of Persia is as important as any other franchise for Ubisoft. As soon as we have something to show, we will."

In 2011 Ubisoft released the Prince of Persia Classic Trilogy HD, which contained an improved collection of The Sands of Time trilogy released on PlayStation 2 and subsequently on PlayStation 3.

An alleged image from a new Prince of Persia game emerged a few months after last year's E3, but Ubisoft has not commented on the image and there has been no official news about the screenshot since.
