Trion Worlds has announced that its upcoming science-fiction themed massively multiplayer online first-person shooter, Defiance is coming on April 2, just two weeks before the new television series of the same name premieres on the SyFy channel.
In order to celebrate the announcement of the game's release date, Trion Worlds has put out a brand new live-action trailer, which can be seen below right after the story.
Defiance is the first multi-platform shooter MMO that will cross the boundaries between television and video games. It is being described as a new form of trans-media and a groundbreaking entertainment experience.
The game will interconnect with a worldwide television program of the same name with both forms of media affecting the other.
Defiance's gameplay is a combination of a console third-person shooter and the "persistence, scale, and customization" of an MMO. Its TV counterpart will attempt to convey the scope, story, and drama of the new fictional universe.
The trailer shows a scene that is reminiscent of George Lucas' "Star Wars" film franchise with a group of Ark Hunters traveling to an old rundown bar, before engaging in battle with Hellbugs, a race of large six-legged insect creatures that were created on earth when the planet was terraformed by the alien race of Vtans.
The game will include dynamic events such as Arkfalls, where wreckage from Votan ships falls periodically to earth and contain rare and valuable alien technology. Player will compete against each other recover these treasures.

The series will be broadcast in the United States on the SyFy channel staring on April 15 and Defiance, the video game will be released on April 2, for Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
