Mass Effect 3: New DLC- Can Bioware Bring Fans Back To The Game?

The Citadel is a symbol of incontestable influence for the alien races that make up the Council- the Asari, Turians and Salarians. From the Presidium to Council Chambers, the space station is an artificial paradise crafted by an extinct race of intellectual beings called the Protheans.

So it was thought.

But during Sovereign's campaign of carnage on the space station it was revealed that the structure was a tool for the Reapers to continue their harvest of organic life.

The space station still has many mysterious to explore and despite Mass Effect 3's ending, Commander Shepard's story is not really over thanks to post-game content from Bioware.

Mass Effect 3's ending has certainly been a topic of controversy and has turned many fans of the series against the renowned role-playing game developer, but through DLC, Bioware can win its fans back as long as they stay away from the mistakes they made with the last DLC.

The most recent downloadable expansion for the game saw our Shepards helping out the pirate queen of Omega, Aria T'Loak as she battled against Cerberus and General Oleg Petrovsky to retake the criminal space station.

The DLC focused on gunfights and intense battles with a basic revenge story that failed to engage the player. Quite frankly, Omega has more in common with a Michael Bay directed summer blockbuster than the engrossing narrative of previous entries in the Mass Effect series.

The problem with extending Mass Effect 3's single-player story is that it feels almost pointless now that gamers know how the trilogy ends. Another problem with the Omega DLC is that Aria returned to her default place in the Citadel once the mission was completed. This made the DLC seem meaningless and like a waste of money because it fails to give us gamers a sense of accomplishment.

Recently Bioware released two images with backgrounds that appear to be located somewhere in the Citadel. These images have helped to fuel the rumors that the developer is planning to set its next single-player DLC in the Citadel.

Know one really knows if these images are from the rumored DLC or if they are from the recently leaked multiplayer add-on that was discovered by some game miners earlier this week.

We definitely know that some form of expansion is coming because last month Bioware hinted at a new upcoming DLC with a high potential for tear inducing moments.

In December 2012 post on the Bioware forums, designer Jos Hendriks said that eight writers were currently penning a new script for the upcoming expansion. He also said that all of the writers had previously been involved with the storyline of Mass Effect 3 at some point.

Hendriks wrote, "It's all hands on deck for this one. Pretty much every ME3 DLC writer here in Edmonton is involved, which would include both Patrick Weekes AND John Dombrow."

So what the heck is Bioware planning? Will the developer attempt to win back fans of the series, by providing us with some post-ending content on the Citadel or will the new expansion just be another action packed, but meaningless romp? Do you still play Mass Effect 3 and are you excited for the new Omega DLC? Does any of the news regarding Mass Effect 4 surprise you? What do you want out of the new game?
