‘Aquarius’ Season 3 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: David Duchovny Crime Drama Cancelled By NBC, Actor Lost His Touch On TV?

Fans won't get to see "Aquarius" season 3 after NBC axed the show just after two seasons. The crime drama starring "The X-Files" star David Duchovny premiered in May 2015 and was the first broadcast series to be streamed after its season premiere. Now speculations are saying that Duchovny is losing his luster on TV.

'Aquarius' Season 3 Canceled Because Of Low Ratings

It appears that Fans may no longer see what really happened to the Manson family as NBC announced its cancellation for "Aquarius" season 3. After airing two seasons with lackluster ratings and multiple schedule changes, NBC decided to pull the plug on the David Duchovny-starrer series, Entertainment Weekly reported. The network initially adopted a Netflix-style for the periodic drama -- making the entire 12 episodes available for streaming all at once. However, it appears that Duchovny's charms on TV aren't enough to increase the ratings.

The series followed Duchovny's Sam Hodiak in Los Angeles in 1967. Hodiak was a Los Angeles Police Department detective tasked with investigating the case of a missing teenager (Emma Dumont). Along with an undercover narcotics cop Officer Brian Shafe (Grey Damon), Hodiak finds out that the missing teen is with the Manson Family. Since NBC cancelled "Aquarius" season 3, fans won't really know what happened to the Manson family.

David Duchovny Lackluster Performance

The announcement of "Aquarius" season 3 getting cancelled sparked speculations that "The X-Files" actor is losing his touch on TV, Movie News Guide suggested. After a strong start with over 5 million viewers, the show slipped down to 3 million on its second episode. The series continued to show a decline in ratings even after NBC decided to renew season 2 early on. The report noted that David Duchovny may have difficulty departing from his famous character, Fox Mulder from "The X-Files."

While the cancellation of "Aquarius" will certainly disappoint its fans, it will at give David Duchovny more time for another season of "The X-Files." The six-episode season 10 reboot of the classic sci-fi drew a big following for Fox last winter. Since then, fans have been hopeful for season 11.
