"Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" will invade PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in January next year. As Capcom promised, VR mode for this title will still be available but limited to PlayStation VR - at least for the meantime.
According to Capcom, gamers can enjoy the full mainframe story release across all platforms. However, there is VR version prologue to the game which is exclusive to PlayStation VR for the following 12 months. "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" will be available to other VR devices only after then. The developer stressed the same notice in the pre-release game poster.
So what is the point of getting excited with prologue if it is, well - just a prologue? According to Game Spot, being a VR title is sufficient reason because there are few decent virtual reality-based titles in current market. "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" main gameplay is not intertwined to the prologue. Meaning, gamers can enjoy what seems to be a standalone prologue.
Gamers suspect that non-exclusive VR "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" prologue is a strategy where Sony focuses on moving their VR headset into the market. Reddit forum is discussing this new trend of game exclusivity. To recall, "Rise of the Tomb Raider" attempts to fence the title in a singular platform. "The Witness" was another classic example where Sony barricaded for about 8 months.
It may not be all negative for excusive VR "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" prologue though. Gasmers believe that 12 months will be productive for Capcom and Sony. Considering that PlayStation VR is a newcomer and the game title is a continuity, the time lapse can be used to fix bugs. Who knows, VR prologue might come near-perfect when it hits other VR options.
At any rate, gamers can enjoy "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" in Jan 24, 2017. Deluxe version for PS4, Xbox One and PC versions will be out at $89 minus the VR prologue. Apart from the main game, the amount provides 3 bonus chapters sandwiched in a season pass.
