Sony Sends Out $10 PSN Vouchers to "Loyal" Customers Before PS4 Announcement

Sony fans getting ready to check out today's PlayStation press announcement may be in store for a pleasant surprise: Sony is sending out $10 vouchers for PSN to "loyal" customers.

The timing of Sony's generosity is curious, of course. Sony is expected to unveil the next PlayStation at a press conference later today. Are the coupons a means of warming up fans for the big show? Or are they softening the ground for something PSN users may not be happy about? Rumor has it Sony plans on replacing PlayStation Plus with a service called PlayStation World, and may use a streaming service to circumvent supporting PS3 games. One way or the other, the next PlayStation's digital ecosystem, whether it's PSN or something new, will play a vital role in the success of the new hardware.

PlayStation users took to Twitter and NeoGAF to share the good news. The result seems to be joy, followed by confusion, as it's unclear what qualified them as loyal customers. It also seems that only North American PSN accounts have been recieving vouchers. According to Joystiq, this is actually the second wave of gifts from Sony. A set of customers apparently recieved five dollar coupons on PSN last week as well.

Do you think PSN users are in for good news or bad news from Sony today? Let us know in the comments!
