New 'Borderlands 2' DLC Will Add New Character, Raise Level Cap

Gearbox Software is working on more downloadable content for "Borderlands 2," including a new playable character, according to a tweet from CEO Randy Pitchford.

When asked if Gearbox planned to add a new character class and/or raise the game's level cap, Pitchford responded: "We're working on new DLC for these things in addition the campaign DLC offered in the season pass."

Gearbox has released a slew of post-release content since "Borderlands 2" was released in September, including two DLC campaigns and a new playable character, which is sold seperately. Based on this tweet, it looks like the next new character will follow suit. According to Polygon, Pitchford tweeted to a second follower that, while he couldn't say more on the subject, more information would be coming soon: "News as soon as we can," wrote Pitchford. "Sorry I can't offer more yet - I get skewered when things change in development, whatever the reason."

It also sounds like the game's level cap increase may be tied to that DLC, as opposed to the game's traditional expansions. The "Borderlands 2" season pass entitles consumers to four DLC campaigns, including "Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty," "Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt," and upcoming pack "Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage." Level cap increases are often connected to campaign-content, however, as a form of character customization, releasing it either with a new character or independently fits in with publisher 2K Games' DLC strategy.

Seperately, 2K Games announced that the "Borderlands 2 Add-On Content Pack," a disc-based compilation of all the game's DLC to date, goes on sale today. At $29.99 for PS3 and Xbox 360, the pack includes "Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty," "Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt," the additional Mechromancer character class, the "Creature Slaughter Dome," the "Gearbox Gun Pack," and other customization options.
